STT Trainer is a client-server application. Content authors log on to STT Trainer from their desktops to access a Central Authoring Repository (CAR) where lesson resources and content are stored, edited and deployed to trainees. Trainees then typically access the lesson content over the company intranet (or the internet) simply using Internet Explorer 6 or above.
There are three areas where hardware and software are required:
|
|
|
1) Server Environment for STT Trainer's Central Authoring Repository
STT Server is the server component of STT Trainer. It is installed on the computer that hosts the central authoring location in the organization. All other computers used for authoring must be pointed to this location when you install and roll-out STT Trainer.

2) Authoring Environment for Lesson Development
Authors require the STT Trainer client application to develop lessons. The capturing and editing applications Capture and Editor are included in STT Trainer.
With Capture, authors can capture application screens and tasks (like keystrokes and mouse clicks) as they navigate through the live application. In the Editor, authors can customize and enhance lessons based on the raw data recorded with Capture.
The size of a lesson file depends on the number of frames, voice recordings, lesson information and other content it contains. An average lesson is about 30 MB - which includes the raw data, edited data and all published outputs. The recommended hard disk space below will therefore be sufficient for an authoring repository of about 100 lessons. However, if you intend to create more (or larger) lessons, you should adjust the recommended hard disk space accordingly.

3) Training Environment for Lesson Presentation
You can present published content in STT Web Player with Internet Explorer (version 6 or above) or the desktop application STT Player. Internet Explorer is generally the preferred and recommended option. To access context-sensitive live application help, trainees also need
STT Help. Unless you are advised otherwise (for specific, rare reasons) you should assume that there is no need to install STT Player as trainees will simply use Internet Explorer to play the lessons.
To install STT Player and STT Help, computers must meet the minimum requirements listed below. Although trainees only need Internet Explorer to play web simulations, the computers that trainees use to play web simulations should meet these specifications.
